CONTINUE TO #lobbyWhy this exists
The talk.chat that ran from 2017 to 2024 is not this site, and this site did not build it. That one was made by DMCUBED LTD, who still own the name, the original logo and marketing, and the apps. It stopped working sometime in late 2024, and nothing has replaced it since.
This is a rebuild, from scratch, by someone who used the original growing up and wanted a room like it to exist again. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or run by DMCUBED LTD, and nothing on this site claims otherwise.
What this is
TALK is a public chat site. There are no accounts. You choose a name and a gender, and that is the whole of what anyone knows about you — there is no password, no email address and no phone number to give.
Everyone else is anonymous in exactly the same way, which is worth remembering in both directions.
How rooms work
Every conversation happens in a room, and every room is public. You start in #lobby.
- The green button lists the rooms that are always there (arts, business, computers, games, health, home, news, recreation, science, shopping, society, sports) and searches for any other room by name.
- If the room you want does not exist, make it. Room names are letters and numbers only, up to 32 characters.
- The blue button gives you the room's link. Anyone who opens it arrives in the room with you. That is the entire invitation system.
There is deliberately no trending list: rooms are found here, by searching, or through a link someone sent you.
Chat does not stick around
A room keeps its last 100 lines. Anything older is gone, which in a busy room takes minutes rather than days.
Everything else runs on a timer. Messages are deleted after 30 days, and a room with nothing said in it for 30 days is deleted along with them. Nothing is archived, and old conversations cannot be searched.
There is one exception, set out in full on your data: reported conversation is kept longer than the chat it came from.
Before you start
You are talking to strangers, and this site is for over 18s only.
Type Block <name> in the chat to stop
seeing someone until you close the tab. It takes effect immediately
and needs nobody's permission.
report <name> sends a report to
whoever runs the site.
Read the safety page first. It is short, and the part about personal information is the part that matters.
Still early
There is almost nobody here yet — you would likely be the first person in whatever room you open. That is not a bug, it is just where this is.
If you used the original, you already know how it grows: one person shares one link, and the room stops being empty. If you know someone from back then, send them this. If you are new, start a room on something you actually care about and send the link to one person. That is the entire growth mechanism this site has ever had, on the original and on this one.
Over 18s only. Pressing START is a confirmation of your age, not a check of it. See the terms.
